About UPSC-

UPSC stands for the Union Public Service Examination and established on 01 October 1926. It is also known as Mother of all the examinations. It is considered as the one of the most toughest examination of the country. UPSC is a type of of government agency which is responsible for the recruitment of officers into the Civil Services inorder to serve or offer services to the country.

It basically includes the high level services such as- I.A.S , I.F.S, I.P.S and I.R.S. etc services. These are also known as the backbone of the country’s administration. This government agency recruits I.A.S, I.P.S. and other high level service officers.

As we all know that these officers (I.A.S, I.P.S., I.F.S., and I.R.S.) plays a very significant and very important rele in policy making and in daily administration and in order to maintain law and order in the country. They plays very vital role in the implementation of laws in the country.

Eligibilty For UPSC examination-

The eligibility for UPSC exam are as follows:-

  • Graduation- A candidate must hold the degree of Graduation with any stream from any recognized university.
  • Age Limit- The candidate age should be atleast 21 years of the age but not more than 32 years of the age.
  • Nationality- The candidates must be a citizen of India.

About UPSC Exam Patterns-

UPSC conducts it’s examination in three stages and these are as follows-

  • Prelims
  • Mains
  • Interview

All the above mentioned stages of this examination has different pattern of examination.

About Prelims-

Prelims exams is also popular as Preliminary Examination and is of objective type question paper. It consist of two sets of paper known as the General Studies Papers.

  • General Studies Paper -I
  • General Studies Paper-II (CSAT)
  • Total Marks of prelims examination is of 400 marks.
  • General Studies Paper-I consist of 100 questions and each question consists of 2 marks.
  • General Studies Paper-II consists of 80 questions which is of 2.5 marks and of 200 marks.
  • General Studies Paper -II is also called CSAT examination and is of qualifying in nature. It requires only 33% marks in order to qualify CSAT.
  • Time duration for Prelims is 2 hours.
  • Prelims is a one day type of exam. Means Both the papers General Studies Paper -I and General Studies Paper-II examination is conducted on the same day.
  • It also consists of negative marking. 1/3rd marks deducted for every wrong answers.

About Mains-

After clearing Prelims, candidates or aspirants will have to appear for Mains.

  • It is the descriptive type or we can say that written type of examination.
  • It consists of total 9 papers, out of 9 papers two papers are only qualifying in nature and marks of these two papers are not counted or required for final merit list of the candidates.
  • Mains examination contains two language papers and 4 General Studies Papers and 2 Optional Subjects papers.
  • Mains examination is of total 1750 marks.

Interview-

After clearing Mains, candidates will have to appear for a Personality Test known as Interview in general terms which is of 275 marks.

Subject lists for Mains examination- The following are the subject lists of Mains examination:-

  • Paper(A)- Compulsory Indian Language.
  • Paper(B)- English Language

Remember- Paper(A) and Paper(B) is only qualifying in nature and the marks of these two language papers are not counted for the final merit lists.
